Cockroaches are sometimes shown surprising agility, and most recently the University of California biologists have unraveled one of their tricks – a clever dive under the desk (or in the opposite direction of any other surface). A team led by Ronald Firinga repeated this technique, providing the robot DASH hooks on their feet, made in the manner of Velcro. DASH was originally created “image and likeness” of cockroaches and was intended for military purposes, but is also widely used for the experiments in the field of biomechanics – for example, to simulate the flying dinosaurs.
